Ningxia Aoba Cattle Farm Wastewater Treatment Case

I. Project Overview

This project is the wastewater treatment project for the Ningxia Aoba Cattle Farm. The farm is located in the Wulintuo Cattle Farming Park in Lintong District, Wuwei City, Ningxia. It mainly engages in cattle breeding, with 3,000 cattle currently in captivity, and the daily discharge of livestock wastewater is 700 cubic meters. The wastewater comes from the flushing of cattle sheds, the cleaning of milking halls, and the mixed liquid of manure. The existing treatment facilities cannot meet the environmental protection discharge requirements. Therefore, it was entrusted to Jinan Guangbo Environmental Protection to provide a customized simplified treatment plan. The effluent is required to meet the "Pollutant Discharge Standards for Livestock and Poultry Industry" (GB 18596-2001), taking into account resource utilization and low-cost operation, and meeting the local requirements for environmental governance of cattle farming.

II. Wastewater Characteristics and Treatment Challenges

The core indicators of the wastewater from this farm: COD 5,000-8,000 mg/L, ammonia nitrogen 500-800 mg/L, SS 2,500-4,000 mg/L. It contains a large amount of cow manure residue, grass fiber, and milk fat. It has the characteristics of high COD, high ammonia nitrogen, a large amount of suspended solids, high lipid content, and fluctuating water quality. The core challenge is that impurities are prone to clog equipment, and oils inhibit biochemical reactions. It is necessary to adapt to the production rhythm of the farm and achieve rapid compliance and low-cost operation.

III. Core Treatment Plan

Jinan Guangbo Environmental Protection has customized a simplified process: livestock wastewater → mechanical grille → oil separator → solid-liquid separator → regulating tank → UASB anaerobic reactor → MBBR aerobic biochemical tank → disinfection and discharge. Relying on the self-developed UASB reactor to efficiently degrade high-concentration organic matter, adding an oil separator to remove oils, and combining with solid-liquid separation to solve the problem of impurity clogging. The process is modularized and easy to operate and maintain, adapting to the production needs of the cattle farm.

IV. Project Achievements

After the project was put into use, the effluent was stable and met the standards. The removal rate of COD and ammonia nitrogen exceeded 97%, and the removal rates of suspended solids and oils reached 98%. The biogas was recovered for heating in the farm, and the biogas residue and liquid were used for fertilizer production. The annual savings in energy and manure disposal costs were 900,000 yuan, completely solving the environmental problems of the farm and achieving the coordinated development of cattle farming and ecological environmental protection.
